The Tao of Sex
The Taoists believe in balance. They do not divide the world into good and bad, they simply see it as a reality of opposing forces. When things are out of balance, things go bad. The Taoists are not moralists, they have simply explored what happens in objective reality and what we can do to be well in this complex world where everything has consequences. The human energy system, according to Taoists, is in constant flux and interaction with external and internal factors, from emotional problems to the food we eat and the air we breathe. The Taoists noticed early on that sexual energy is a very different breed to our total energy field and that it is a very powerful aspect, the one we really need to pay attention to. So they explored sexual energy in detail. The Taoist approach to sex was more pragmatic than the Tantric approach. They simply acknowledged that sex plays an important part in our happiness and wellbeing and they got to work exploring how exactly the sexual energy works, what is good for it, what is bad for it, what we can do to keep it healthy, what we normally do to harm it, how we can benefit from this energy and, in the process, have great sex. The Taoists just observed the objective reality of sexual energy without any moral judgement. They saw some patterns, some laws that govern our sexual energy in this universe, and they explored methods which let us have a great sex life while feeding this energy in a healthy way and getting fed by it to ensure health, creativity, longevity, happiness and satisfaction. What they have discovered is just as true today and it is invaluable knowledge for all of us. |
